About Celorico de Basto

Celorico de Basto is a municipality in the district of Braga, in the Portuguese region of Braga. The population in 2011 was 12,759, in an area of 97.13 km². The municipality is located in the north-central part of Portugal, bordering the municipalities of Barcelos, Guimarães, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Vizela and Montalegre. The town of Celorico de Basto is situated approximately 30km from the city of Braga. The municipality is known for its traditional embroidery, as well as its meat (chouriço) and cheese productions. The present Mayor is António Silva, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is on October 18.
